For a fire protection construction that is both light-transmitting and transparent, fire-resistant glazing is a suitable option.
The fire-resistant glazing has the same requirements as a fire protection wall and is therefore fire, smoke, and heat resistant.
Fire-resistance ratings
As with fire walls, fire-resistant glazing is available in various fire-resistance classes from G30 to F30 to F90, which means that the external appearance remains unchanged. The fire-resistant glass of fire-resistance class F consists of a multi-pane glazing with a hydrogel layer in the interstices, which foams up at a fire temperature of over 120° C.
For the installation of fire-resistant glazing, specialist knowledge and trained personnel are necessary. We guarantee you an installation that complies with the approval. After completion of the installation, we mark the fire-resistant glazing with a sheet steel sign, on which, among other things, the fire resistance class and the name of the manufacturer are noted.
Fire-resistant glazing is not permitted without a type plate. We always document the work carried out to our clients.
The fire-resistant glazing is always a complete system consisting of glass, frame, seal, and fastening material.
If the passage of flames and fire gas, but not the heat radiation and thus the risk of spontaneous ignition of objects, is prevented for a certain period by the fire-resistant glazing, they are classified with the national standard G (G 30 – G 120) or the European standard E (E 20 – E 120). Here, for example, wired glass and glass blocks with pre-stressed glasses made of borosilicate glass are used.
If it concerns fire-resistant glasses that also prevent a significant transfer of heat, they are classified nationally according to DIN 4102 in F 30 – F 120 (European counterpart DIN 13501: EI 30 – EI 120). However, these high-quality fire-resistant glasses with hydrogel layer can lead to optical distortions.
